  Carl E. Burleson

Mr. Burleson is the Director of FAA’s Office of Environment and Energy (AEE). This office develops national aviation policy relating to environmental and energy matters. This includes representing the United States in development of international standards relating to aircraft noise and engine emissions in international forums. In this capacity, Mr. Burleson serves as the United States member on the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the only internationally recognized body charged with setting environmental standards for civil aviation. The office is also responsible for providing policy guidance and technical assistance for FAA compliance with applicable environmental, occupational safety and health and energy statutes and regulations prescribing Federal environmental protection, worker protection, and energy conservation policies. He also serves as Director for the Environmental Integrated Product Team for the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS) Plan. Mr. Burleson has served in numerous positions at the FAA, including Chief of Staff to the Federal Aviation Administrator, FAA Senior Representative for Northern Europe, and Operations Manager of FAA‘s International Office. He has earned graduate degrees from American University and Boston University and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.
