Masato Obata
President, Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency
Mr. Obata has been the President, Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency (JRTT) since November 2004. As the President, Mr. Obata is responsible for top management and the leadership of the JRTT, whose primary missions extend from development of new technologies of railways and ships, construction of Shinkansen (bullet train) networks nationwide through contribution to promote mass transit systems.
Before joining the JRTT, he had served as an official of the Japanese government for more than 34 years. Since joining the Ministry of Transport in 1968, he has held various important positions including Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Deputy Vice-Minister, Minister's Secretariat of the Ministry of Transport, and Director General of the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transport after having served as Deputy Director General of the Transport Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Transport.
Mr. Obata graduated from Tokyo University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in law.
