  Akira Noda
Executive Director, National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory, Japan

 Mr. Noda is an Executive Director, substantially the Deputy Director General, in National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory (NTSEL). This organization is an independent administrative institute, and it contributes safe and environmentally friendly traffic through the activities of research and automobile type approval tests. Mr. Noda has been engaged in environment research activities in NTSEL for approximately thirty years. His main work so far was to develop appropriate evaluation methods relating to emissions and fuel economy performance for gasoline/diesel powered vehicles including heavy-duty vehicles. In addition, he was a leader of the national project to develop and promote the Next Generation Environmentally Friendly heavy-duty Vehicles. The DME truck exhibited in this conference is one of the products of the project. He was invited to the 2nd EFV conference held in Birmingham city in the November 2005. At that time he made a presentation showing the outline of the project and five EFVs developed.

Mr. Noda finished the master’s course with master's degree of mechanical engineering in Nagoya University and joined NTSEL as a researcher in 1974. His career in NTSEL was, a chief of fuel economy section in 1986, principal researcher in 2003, and director of environment research department in 2004.

Mr. Noda enjoys classical music as an amateur cello player in Mitaka city orchestra
