  Dr. Alan J. Lipton

Chief Technology Officer, ObjectVideo

Dr. Lipton is the chief technology officer at ObjectVideo, where he applies video understanding technologies to commercial applications that include video compression and video surveillance.
From 1997 to 2000, Dr. Lipton was a member of the research faculty at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he was a project co-manager of DARPA’sVSAM project. This project developed automated, real-time algorithms that guide a network of active video sensors to monitor the activities of people and vehicles in complex scenes.

He received his Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia in 1996. For his thesis, he studied the problem of vision-based mobile robot navigation using natural landmarks.
