The Office of Maritime and Land Security has responsibility for overall transportation security of passengers, cargo, and infrastructure for maritime, rail, highway, mass transit, and pipeline conveyances. Captain Johnson assumed his position after a twenty-six year career in the U. S. Coast Guard, principally in its marine safety, security, and environmental protection program. He retired as a Captain in April of 2002.
A graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Captain Johnson held various operational and staff assignments in the Coast Guard, including Captain of the Port of Savannah, GA.
