  Dale Hayes

Vice President
Customer Relationship Management and Business Development
United Parcel Service

"In today's electronic marketplace, the information about a package is just as important as the package itself. As the movement of information that 'lives' with each package has taken on a more important role, UPS has applied the most sophisticated technologies to the business process so that information can be leveraged throughout the supply chain."

As vice president of Customer Relationship Management and Business Development at UPS, Dale Hayes is overall responsible for UPS's customers. Hayes develops and directs processes to identify, acquire, retain, penetrate, service and satisfy all customer segments, including the application of technology in today's ever-changing world.

In his previous role as vice president of Electronic Commerce Marketing and Technology, Hayes spearheaded UPS electronic commerce, OnLine products, web site and Document Exchange groups. Under his leadership, the company experienced phenomenal success in the fast-growing e-commerce market.

In the time that Hayes had been responsible for UPS's overall technology marketing strategy, web activity climbed to a record one million online tracking requests in a single day. Under Hayes' leadership, 55% of 1998 online holiday purchases were delivered by UPS, as measured by Zona Research. In 1998-1999 Hayes' group launched UPS OnLine Tools, UPS Internet Shipping and UPS Document Exchange UPS (the first electronic delivery system brought to the market by a transportation company). His group continued to develop innovations in UPS Internet Tools and web-based solutions that made it easier for companies to compete in a digital environment.

In his seven years with UPS, Hayes has held a variety of positions in international marketing and the U.S. products and pricing group. Prior to joining UPS, Hayes held positions in sales, marketing, finance, technology and strategic planning and corporate communications at British-owned The BOC Group, CIBA Geigy and FMC Corporation.

Hayes is also active on the speakers' circuit having presented at conferences including Internet World, The Stanford Global Supply Chain Forum and The Conference Board.

Hayes received a Masters of Business Administration from The Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, and a Bachelors of Science in Textile Chemistry from NC State University. He is chairman of The NC State Foundation, and a member of the board of directors for a leading logistics software developer, TanData.
